Stolen Moments

Posted on Saturday June 10, 2017 @ 12:24am by Captain Charles Lancaster & Captain Miranda Corleone

Mission: A Day In The Life...
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Current

As the music played on, Miranda let her head rest on the back of the sofa and her eyes drifted closed.

A mechanical noise drew her attention and as she turned to look, the Federation banner that stood beside her desk, along the back wall, began to slide to the side, revealing a door. The door then slid open silently, and a man in black clothes stepped into the office.

Miranda could not help chuckling to herself, then said, "Chuck, aren't you taking this whole secret mission thing to an extreme? You are more than welcome to use the front door."

"I would much rather avoid your staff asking any questions." he deadpanned, as he sat heavily on the sofa and leaned over to place his head on her shoulder.

Miranda turned as far as she could and placed a light kiss on the top of his head.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

Charles sighed and said, "It's been too quiet. We rarely get this much down time, and the team is starting to get super twitchy. I've already had to step in and break up two 'almost' fights, and that's just in the last two days."

"I'll trade with you. You hang out in here and argue with the bureaucrats and freighter captains, and I'll go shoot at stuff. Deal?"

Charles just laughed, "Sorry sweetheart, but I don't think that's going to work."

She shared his laugh, and just sat quietly, enjoying the rare few moments that they were able to just sit and enjoy each others company.

[ A While Later ]

A beeping started to sound from the desk terminal. It was an early warning that told her that someone was in the outer office, which meant that Charles had to leave, quickly, the same way he came in.

He stood and crossed the office on feet that were almost silent, even though he was moving very quickly. He made his way through the door, and triggered it closing it behind him.

Miranda was sad to see him leave again so soon, but she took a beat, followed it with a deep cleansing breath, and attempted to return to the relaxed posture, so as to maintain the facade when whomever it was made their way into the office.
